Crowned

They say that Oak is king of the forest and that Beech is the queen.
The oaks shown here are drawn in medieval-style iron gall ink (made from oak galls), using a dip pen, the beech in a more prosaic (but easier to handle) modern ink, using a fountain pen.

A new project at Sticks Contemporary, Gosport
February – April 2018
Exhibition: 7 March – 14 April, Wednesday to Saturday, 11am to 4pm.

Artikinesis will be presenting a room-sized artwork exploring our relationship with trees.

Visitors can watch the artwork as it grows in the week before the exhibition opens, and later immerse themselves in the installation. Integrating painted and projected artwork with a haunting soundtrack composed for the work, it will be a calm space in an urban setting, a chance to contemplate what trees have to offer humanity. What answers do they hold to the problems we face as a species and as individuals? Should we be seeking to renew our acquaintance with our earthy, earthly companions? We owe the trees a great deal: since primeval times, these beneficial beings have cleansed our air; they have provided us with shelter, fuel, food and medicine. Do they speak among themselves? Do they seek to communicate with us?

Walk through our forest, be part of it and find new forest paths of your own.

Elinor, Rosemary, Amanda and Adeliza are very excited to be working with Sticks Contemporary and Liveartlocal CIC for this project.

The Basingstoke Project 2017

Artikinesis’ Basingstoke Project is currently on display upstairs at the Willis Museum in Basingstoke. We are sharing the building with Hampshire Cultural Trust’s Turner and the Sun touring exhibition (downstairs) until the 16th of December, so you might want to allocate a little extra time in order to catch both exhibitions.

Our colouring book on display in the tall cabinet, along with a lino print based on an opportunistic sketch.

New Artikinesis exhibition featuring churches and the canal

bohSome new Artikinesis artworks can be seen at St Nicolas church in Newbury tomorrow (Tuesday 6 June) 9:30 a.m. until Friday at 3:30 pm (exhibition closed between 1:30 and 3 p.m. on Wednesday).  Church buildings have long held a fascination for Brian and Amanda, and are a perennial feature of their work.  Adeliza, Elinor and Rosemary have created some new works especially for this exhibition which features local churches and the canal to coincide with a visit to Newbury by the Boats of Hope who make it their mission to bring communities together.  This is a great opportunity to take a tour of the bell tower at St Nic’s and get a unique view over the town.  First come, first served for tower tours on Tuesday 6 June; 10.00am / Noon  and at 2.00pm.  Limited availability.  The art exhibition is free to visit and we will be running a children’s art competition, displaying the winning artworks on the final day and with our very special colouring book as prizes.
We would like to thank St Nicolas’ church for their generosity for lending us the space for this exhibition and for their helpfulness throughout.

Newbury Weekly News: Lin Wilkinson Review of Springtime Exhibition at West Berkshire Museum, pub. 6 April 2017

This week’s Newbury Weekly News (April 6, 2017) carries a review of the Artikinesis Springtime exhibition, written by Lin Wilkinson. She describes it as a “vibrant group show” and goes on to pick out several works. The review is on page 37 of the newspaper and is included in our Press Cuttings section (edited April 14, 2017).

Our exhibition went up smoothly over two days the hanging system took a little getting used to and in the end it all looked wonderful. Such an amazing old building, the first factory, and so full of time and a sense of history.

Springtime exhibition at West Berkshire Museum, Newbury Wharf

Our Springtime exhibition for the West Berkshire Museum focuses on the area of West Berkshire and North Hampshire, and the events happening right now in Spring 2017. Nature is active with the emergence of new spring light, the bluebells in Wolverton woods or the circling of the red kite in the skies above our heads. We humans are busy too, with the construction of new homes at Newbury Racecourse or the demolition of the landmark Sterling Cables site, or the gruelling annual Devizes to Westminster canoe race, due to happen along the Kennet and Avon Canal and on to the River Thames once more this Easter.
Do come and look at the Artikinesis Springtime exhibition.  Starts 29th March and continues until 23rd April.  Every day except Mondays and Tuesdays.
